Whole Wheat Bread

This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe is Whole Wheat Bread. The hosts for this recipe are Michele of Veggie Num Nums and Teresa of The Family That Bakes Together, and you can visit their sites to get the complete recipe for this week’s recipe. I’m really interested in checking out all of the variations with this recipe, so don’t forget to check out the Tuesdays with Dorie site where all of the bakers leave their links to the posts for this recipe.

My end of the summer and beginning of fall has been very busy, which caused me to miss September’s other Tuesdays with Dorie recipe. Hopefully I can catch up one of these days. I wasn’t sure that I would have enough time to make this, but I read through the recipe and while it takes some time, it doesn’t take much hands-on time. I was visiting my parents so I decided to pack up the ingredients and bake it at their house while I was visiting. Luckily, this recipe doesn’t require too many ingredients.

Baking in a different kitchen, even though it’s the kitchen I grew up in, is quite strange! While I brought all of the ingredients, I used my mom’s mixer and it isn’t as used to working hard as mine is. I kneaded the bread in the mixer for about three quarters of the time, but then kneaded by hand as it was too much for the mixer. I was worried I hadn’t kneaded it enough, but it was ok and rose beautifully. My shaping of the loaves was a bit…rustic…but in general they looked ok. The house sure smelled wonderful! I liked these loaves I guess I like fancier bread. I do particularly like the bread toasted with jam, so that’s how I will be enjoying these loaves.

Wether it was your kitchen or not they came out perfect!

I agree with Paula - they look beautiful! It can be fun (and frustrating) to use someone else's kitchen. If you get a chance, do try the Nectarine Cake. It's fantastic.

I like the travelling loaves.
Using another kitchen is weird, it throws me off kilter.

Your loaves came out beautifully.

This bread was good toasted. I agree that cooking in a strange kitchen is - well, strange!
